It is the responsibility of the builder and driver to adhere to, and be familiar with, the requirement of this
rulebook. All rules WILL be enforced by the Technical Inspector, with their ruling being the final word.
RULES
OF THE TRACK
1. No driver who has consumed any alcoholic beverage on the day of an event may participate
in a practice or race. NO alcoholic beverages may be consumed by ANY driver or race staff before the end of the last race
or other on track activity.
2. Intentional Bumping will not be Tolerated
3. The responsibility
for a safe pass rests with the overtaking driver
4. Driver must keep both hands on the steering wheel, except
to momentarily operate other controls.
5. If a driver leaves the course, he/she must re-enter the course as close
as possible to the same point the mower left the marked track. The driver may not simply re-enter further down the track.
6. If a mower stalls on the course, the driver's first responsibility is to move the mower to a safe position
off the track. Crew may not go on the course at any time during a race unless specifically directed to do so by the safety
crew.
7. Mower must be completely stopped before driver dismounts.
8. Unsafe off-track driving practices
may result in disqualification.
9. All drivers must attend all announced drivers meetings.
10. Protests
against another driver or their mower must be lodged in writing with the pit tech prior to the start of the race, or within
30 minutes of its completion.
11. If a driver enters the pit area for any reason during a race you cannot reenter the
race.
12. All classes will be starting in a double file rolling start. If there is a caution on the first lap there
will be an original line up restart. In the event of a yellow flag caution after the first lap, the restart will be single
file. On the restart no one can advance his/her position before crossing the safty cone.
13. Unsportsman like conduct
in the pit area or on the track will result in a disquilification and points loss for the that race day
Flag
Rules:
- Green Flag - Start or Restart of the race
- White Flag - Last Lap
- Checkered Flag
- The race is over
- Yellow Flag - There is a accident on the track and caution must be used, immediately slow your
machine to an idle.
- Red Flag - a mower has overturned or a rider has been thrown off, immediately stop your machine
and kill the engine.
- Black Flag - If you are black flagged for a racing or safety violation you Must leave the track.
- Blue and Yellow Flag - If you are shown this flag you need to move over or hold your line.
RULES OF THE PITS
1. Mower pit speed is idle maximum
2. No smoking while fueling
a mower or kart in the track area
3. Driver must dismount and engine must be off when fuel is added.
4. Mower must be completely stopped before driver dismounts
5. The driver is responsible for the conduct of
his/her guests and crew, even while on the track.
6. Unauthorized personnel shall not enter the racing course.
All individuals entering the racing course must sign a release discharging the Kansas Outlaws from liability. All individuals
entering the track area must display a wristband.
7. No pets are allowed on the racing course.
8.
No vehicles other than racing mowers and official vehicles such as tow mowers shall be on the track.
9. Entry
fees shall be: $15.00 per mower racer, $10.00 for kart racers.
DRIVER ELIGIBILITY
1. Drivers must
be members of the Kansas Outlaws.
2. Driver Age Requirements -
- Kids Karts must be at least
6 years old
- Super Stocks must be at least 10 years old
- Modifieds, Pro Modified, Outlaws must be 16 years
old
3. All drivers must sign the insurance paper at registration.
DRIVER SAFETY EQUIPMENT
1. Every driver must wear an automobile racing or motorcycle-type helmet approved by the U.S. Department
of Transportation or the Snell Foundation.
2. The helmet must fit snugly and be securely buckled when the driver
is on the track.
3. Goggles or face shield is required. Glasses are not sufficient.
4. Every driver
must wear long pants and full-finger gloves
5. An approved racing neck support is MANDATORY in all classes, chest
protectors are optional in all classes
6. Driver must have a fire extinguisher in his/her equipment.
MOWER ELIGIBILITY
1. Events are open to all riding lawn mowers, but they must have been originally
designed and sold to mow residential lawns.
2. Final determination of eligibility and classification is up to
the Tech Inspectors, in consultation with the Kansas Outlaws.
3. Organizers reserve the right to reject at any
time any mower, which in their opinion, represents an attempt to defeat the spirit of these regulations.
TECHNICAL
INSPECTION
1. Every mower entered in any Kansas Outlaw event must be approved for competition by Technical
Inspection before practicing of racing at any event.
2. Drivers may be tested by race officials at any time for
knowledge of flag procedures and these regulations. Drivers must pass all tests in order to practice or race.
3.
Drivers must show their personal safety equipment at technical inspection before practicing or racing at any event.
4. If, after reading these regulations you need a clarification, you are encouraged to contact one of the staff members
PRIOR TO RACEDAY.
5. If any racer has an issue with any of the other mowers at any time, that racer has until
the end of the night to contest the mower being safe/legal to race.
RACING CLASSES SPECIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED FOR ALL RACING CLASSES, Super Stock, Modified, Pro Modified, and Outlaw :
1.CUTTING BLADES
MUST BE REMOVED COMPLETELY FROM ALL MOWERS. Mowers must have a cutting deck securely mounted in the stock location, with a
minimum of 2.5 inch ground clearance under the lowest point of the deck, except in the outlaw class where you don't need to
run a deck.
2. All mowers MUST be equipped with an automatic throttle closing devise.
3. All mowers
must be equipped with a tether style kill switch, which will turn the ignition off if the driver leaves the mower. Velcro
is NOT acceptable.
4. Mower brakes must be in good condition, easily operated and operating on at least two wheels.
5. Brakes may be improved in any way.
6. Throttle and brake controls may be relocated.
7.
Discreet frame strengthening is allowed.
8. Mowers must be free of projections, which could injure the driver
or a competitor, or damage to another mower.
9. Mowers must be safe and complete.
10. Fenders may
be discreetly moved, but not altered.
11. All exposed chains and sprockets must be fitted with metal guards, which
will direct a broken chain downward.
12. Bumpers are only allowed in the outlaw class.
13. All positively
charged terminals must be insulated with a cover or heavy tape, and battery's must be well secured.
14. No offset
or stagger. Body must be mounted in the center of the wheels. Lawnmower seats only, in the stock location.
15.
Glass headlights must be removed.
16. Chain guards will be mandatory in all classes. The chain guard must direct the
broken chain down to the ground.
RACING CLASSIFICATIONS
SUPER STOCK:
1. Engine must be originally manufactured for the use in lawn mowing equipment and be stock in appearance,
with the exception of air filter and exhaust. Engines must remain stock internally with the exception of the governors.
2. Engines may be L heads, Flat heads, or over head valve engines with a maximum displacement of 28cid.
3. Exhaust
design is open, but must terminate away from driver and competitors, in the rearward and/or downward direction.
4.
Starter and battery must be onboard.
5. Drivelines may be modified from the engine pulley to the rear wheels, but must
utilize a shift able lawnmower transmission or transaxle.
6. No centrifugal clutches and/or torque converters.
7.
No suspension or shock absorbers.
8. Front axles must use a one piece beam, front axles must be reinforced or fabricated
. Aluminum may not be used.
9. Lawnmower tires must be used, 5in. Minimum on the front, 8in. Minimum on the rear.
10.
steering system must be altered or fabricated for safety purposes.
11. Foot holds must be discrete and made such that
the foot cannot become entangled in a rollover.
12. All parts should be of lawnmower origin.
13. 38in. Maximum
width from outside to outside of rear tires .
14. Unaltered wheel base.
15. Pump gas only, fuel additive or
octane boost may be used but not recommended. No alcohol fuel allowed.
16. Stock brakes can be used but are not recommended,
mechanical disc or hydraulic disc brakes are encouraged for safety purposes.
17. 4 in minimum frame height, 2.5in minimum
deck height
MODIFIED:
1. Engine must be originally manufactured for
use in lawn mowing equipment and be stock in appearance, with the exception of air filter. Engine may be internally modified.
2. Engine's may be Over Head Valve style engines with a maximum Cubic Inch Displacement of 28 cid.
3.
Exhaust design is open, but must terminate away from driver and competitors, in rearward and/or downward direction.
4. Starter must be onboard.
5. Driveline may be modified from the engine pulley to rear wheels, but must utilize
a shiftable lawnmower transmission or transaxle.
6. No centrifugal clutches and/or torque converters.
7. No suspension or shock absorbers. Front axles must use a one piece beam.
8. Front axle may be reinforced
or fabricated but aluminum may not be used.
9. Lawnmower tires must be used.
10. Footholds must be
discrete and made such that the foot cannot become entangled in a rollover.
11. All parts should be of lawnmower
origin.
12. 40 inch maximum width
13. Unaltered wheelbase
14. 5 inch minimum front
wheels, 8 inch minimum rear wheels.
15. Racing fuel may be used but no alcohol
16. 4 in minimum frame height,
2.5 minimum frame height.
Pro Modified:
1. Engine must be originally manufactured for the use
in lawn mowing equipment and be stock in appearance, with the exception of air filter and exhaust. Engines may be internally
modified.
2. Engines may be opposed or v twin with an original horsepower of 25 and must be a vertical shaft engine.
3.
Exhaust design is open, but must terminate away from driver and competitors, in the rearward and/or downward direction.
4.
Starter and battery must be onboard.
5. Drivelines may be modified from the engine pulley to the rear wheels, but must
utilize a shift able lawnmower transmission or transaxle.
6. No centrifugal clutches and/or torque converters.
7.
No suspension or shock absorbers.
8. Front axles must use a one piece beam, front axles must be reinforced or fabricated
. Aluminum may not be used.
9. Lawnmower tires must be used, 5in. Minimum on the front, 6in. Minimum on the rear. Must

16. Brakes must be upgraded to a mechanical disc or hydraulic disc brakes, stock breaks will not
be allowed.
17. Minimum Frame height is 4 inches.
18. Deck haves must be usedOUTLAW:

Open Karts
1.
Must be 16 yrs old
2. Must have teather kill switch
3. Must have good working brakes on at least two tires

Must be a offset chassis desinged for kart racing.
5. You can run without a body but it is recomended

Engine is open
7. May use gas or methonol only, no nitro or nos
Kids Kart's
1.
Karts may be factory built or homemade.
2. Length must be no more than 6'
3. Maximum width is 42"
4.
Maximum wheel size is 6"
5. Karts MUST have a mechanical or hydraulic brakes
6.49cc karts must have a kill
switch, 5.5hp karts must have a tethered kill switch.
7. Protective gear must include, helmet (if not full face with
shield, goggles must be worn), neck brace, and gloves.
8. Numbers on both sides and front must be 3" tall
9.
Must use pump gas.
There will be two kart classes, 49cc and 5.5hp. In the 5.5hp class modifications are limited to
removing the governor and replacing the carb, but the carb must be a stock briggs carb.
